3 Reasons to Feeling Down & Sad After Laugh with One Solution

Do you also fall into this category? Not very often but sometimes we feel down just after laughing hard or spending a few good moments.

However, it’s a common experience, it can be said as a sudden shift in mood after experiencing a moment of extreme joy or laughter. In fact, there are several reasons why this happens. But don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Through this blog post, I’ll share 3 reasons I found because of which we feel down and sad after laughing, and I’ll also share with you one solution that may help you overcome these feelings.

Why do you feel this way?

While laughter is often associated with positive emotions and can even have therapeutic effects, there are several reasons why someone might feel down or sad after a good laugh.

Broadly, it could be due to a sudden shift in thoughts or emotions, or even physiological factors like oxygen levels in the brain. It’s a strange feeling, isn’t it? One minute you’re giggling uncontrollably and the next, you’re overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and emptiness.

The three reasons I think it happens are;

  1. Deep depressing thoughts
  2. Overthinking about future
  3. You don’t see growth in life

Let’s discuss them in brief.

Deep depressing thoughts

Feeling down and sad after laughing is a common experience for many people. One reason for this is deep depressing thoughts.

Even though laughter is considered a positive emotion, it doesn’t mean that it can erase or solve all of our problems.

Sometimes, when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and experience genuine laughter, it can also bring up some negative thoughts and emotions that were lurking beneath the surface.

These deep depressing thoughts can come from a variety of sources, such as past traumas, anxiety about the future, or simply a feeling of being overwhelmed by life. While laughter can provide a temporary distraction from these thoughts, it doesn’t necessarily make them go away.

In fact, sometimes the contrast between the joy of laughter and the weight of our negative thoughts can make us feel even worse than before.

Overthinking about future

Another reason is overthinking about the future is a common reason why some people feel down and sad.

When we laugh, we feel happy and carefree, but as soon as the laughter subsides, our minds often wander to the future. We start to worry about what’s going to happen next and the uncertain paths that lay ahead of us.

This overthinking can quickly turn into anxiety and stress, making it difficult to stay in a positive state of mind.

Sometimes, we may even start to compare ourselves to others and feel like we’re not where we should be in life.

We set unrealistic expectations for ourselves and become overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed. These negative thoughts can build up, overshadowing the joy that came from laughing and leaving us feeling sad and dejected.

You don’t see growth in life

Feeling down and sad after laughing can also be caused by the realization that you don’t see growth in your life.

This feeling can arise when you compare your life to others or to your own expectations. It can be particularly hard to deal with if you have been working towards a goal that hasn’t yet materialized, or if you feel stuck in a job or a situation that you don’t see a way out of.

The feeling of not seeing growth in life can be very demotivating and can make it difficult to find joy in everyday activities. You may feel like you are stuck in a rut or that you are not living up to your potential.

Suppose you’re at a friend’s party, and everyone is having a great time. You’re laughing, joking, and having fun, but suddenly, you feel a wave of sadness wash over you. You can’t help but think about how you’re stuck in a dead-end job, and you’re not making any progress towards your dreams and aspirations. You start to feel like you’re wasting your time, and nothing is changing in your life.

This can lead to a sense of hopelessness and despair, which can be very difficult to overcome. It’s important to remember that growth is a process, and that it can take time to see results. It’s also important to focus on the things that are going well in your life, and to find ways to cultivate a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the good things that you do have.

What is the solution to this?

The solution is self care

Feeling down and sad after laughing can be tough, but taking care of yourself can make a big difference. Here are some three tips to help you cope with the deep depressing thoughts, overthinking about the future, and lack of growth in life that may be contributing to these feelings.

Make sure you’re taking care of your basic needs, like getting enough sleep, eating nutritious food, and exercising regularly. When you’re feeling down, it can be easy to neglect these things, but they’re important for your physical and mental health.

Try to find ways to quiet your mind and manage your thoughts. You can do this through activities like meditation, journaling, or talking to a trusted friend or therapist. It’s okay to let yourself feel your emotions, but it’s important to find healthy ways to process them and not let them overwhelm you.

Finally, try to focus on the things in your life that bring you joy and a sense of purpose. Whether it’s a hobby, a career, or spending time with loved ones, make time for the things that make you happy and fulfilled.

Conclusion
